This location makes me think that with a bit of lighting this could be a great place for a photoshoot.

Photographing Art
A slice of time
Often a photograph will have amazing resolution and perfect focus but will still fails to accurately represent the art in the artists mind. This is because art is viewed over time, from different angles and seen in different light and different times of the day . Photography is about capturing a very specific moment and freezing it. We can only ever hope to document one moment, one light and at one time. That is the limitation ( and challenge) of photography.
This is a 150mm drawing and shot on a modern Leica camera and lens. The resolution of this macro lens is 1:1 which allows incredible detail for small work.
Sometimes you get lucky…

Shot with galley lighting, hand held camera and from one sneaky shot.
I ended up with a 3000px image after I had corrected it for distortion and straightness.

Tuesday Night In Footscray
It was late, it was wet, and the usual noise of the west had finally gone quiet.
We were walking back from a bowl of pho, and as we hit the street, the stillness of the night completely caught me. The busy road was empty, and the rain had turned the asphalt dark and faintly reflective . The light splashing across the wet tram tracks—this intense, warm glow cutting through the dark, balanced by a sharp red door in the distance and the cold blue of the lights on the wall, then the yellow pouring out of cafe window. The people are still.
I was shooting wide open at f/1.2 on a manual $100 TTartisan lens, dragging the shutter down to 1/30th of a second just to hold onto those bleeding colors.
I wanted the dark. I wanted to capture the exact weight of that late-night silence and the way the light hit the wet steel.
It ended up being on Flickr Explore . But to my eye, it’s just the memory of a quiet walk home in Footscray.

Delicious Donuts
This wasn’t a product shoot, or a food shoot. I was brought in to help with photographing the opening of a new service station.
While I was there they mentioned that they had a new product.. I had a choice. Nikon zoom or Leica 23mm Summicron. If I have a choice I will always pick the Summicron for the insanely sharp focus but idealy I would use a longer lens.
That is a great product and I could not resist going for a shot. The 23mm Leica Summicron is such an incredible lens that it allows you to do this sort of nonsense.

The brief was “street photography and there were over 30,000 submissions. Not every street is photogenic. Sometimes its just grim.
